Overview

Cardiff University is a world-leading research-based public university situated in Cardiff, Wales. It is a member of the top five Russell Group Universities, surrounded by a beautiful and thriving environment. The motto of the institution is ‘Truth, Unity, and Concord’.

The university takes pride in being a strategic as well as innovative research activity and a reputed one for a strong international relationship. It is a center of higher education committed to giving a unique student learning experience through a strong link with the industry. There are famous undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are globally accepted. There are many expert tutors available, operated by up-to-date research activities, and 22% of its academic staff are from outside the UK.

The university is also renowned as a world-leading biomedical research center and gives forth fundamental and applied research. Above all, the institution opens the door to creating a multicultural community with international students.



History

The origin of the university is found in the name of the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire in 1883. In 1893, as a founding college, it became known as the University of Wales. In 1997, the institute gained popularity by granting degrees to students. In 1988, it collaborated with the renowned University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. In 2005, the university was given its legal name, Cardiff University.

It was then well-known as an independent university with the beginning of awarding degrees. Therefore, the institution is the third-oldest university in Wales and the only Welsh member of the Russell Group of research-based universities. Cardiff University consists of 26 academic schools. The schools are categorised into three colleges: the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Social Sciences, and the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences.
