History
The origin of the university is found in the name of the University College of South Wales
and Monmouthshire in 1883. In 1893, as a founding college, it became known as the University of Wales. In 1997, the institute gained popularity by
granting degrees to students. In 1988, it collaborated with the renowned University of Wales Institute of Science
and Technology. In 2005, the university was given its legal name, Cardiff University.
It was then well-known as an independent university with the beginning of awarding degrees. Therefore, the institution is the third-oldest university in Wales and the only Welsh member of the Russell Group of research-based universities. Cardiff University consists of 26 academic schools. The schools are categorised into three colleges: the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Social Sciences, and the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences.
