History
The University of Bedfordshire was first established in 1882 as Bedford Training College
for Teachers, which later
became Bedford Physical Training College in 1903. It was in 1993 that it gained university status as the University of
Luton. The University of Luton merged with De Montfort University’s Bedford campus in 2006 to establish the University
of Bedfordshire.
