History
The University of Bradford in the UK started its journey back in 1832
as a Mechanics Institute. It was a plate-glass institute that became part of the Royal Charter in 1966.
The exciting fact about the institute is that it became the 40th
University of Britain that year. Prime Minister Harold Wilson was the first Chancellor of the university.

1882: Technical College
1957: Bradford Institute of Technology was formed as a College of Advanced Technology.
1963–1970: Achieved Charter of Incorporation, expansion of campus buildings, and other
facilities.
1970–1990: The expansion of departments and other facilities continued. Bradford became
one of the twelve founding members of the Northern Consortium in 1987.
21st Century: The university went for a merger with Leeds Metropolitan University in April
2009, but later it didn’t work.
