History
The University of Hertfordshire in the UK was first established in 1952 as the Hatfield
College of Technology. Hatfield College of Technology became Hatfield Polytechnic in 1969 when they introduced their
honors degree courses in engineering and technology. In 1976, Wall Halls and Balls Park Teacher Training Colleges
formed a merger and became the Hertfordshire College of Higher Education.
In the year 1984, the Hatfield Campus welcomed more than 5000 students and opened up a
sports hall on its premises. In 1988, the Council for National Academic Awards granted polytechnic accreditation to
Hatfield, and it became one of the only 21 institutions to get accredited at that time. Later that year, Hatfield
received another accreditation for their research degrees. Finally, in 1992, the British government granted
university status to Hatfield, and it became the University of Hertfordshire from that point onwards.
The University of Hertfordshire now has two campuses across the United Kingdom, with

Transport
Getting around the campus and town is quite convenient for University of Hertfordshire
students. Both campuses offer their accommodations, and students can either do a short walk or cycle to and from the
campus. There is also a free shuttle bus service that runs between the two campuses to make it convenient for
students residing at either of the locations.
The university runs its own bus service called the UNO bus that runs along with the nearby areas and the underground and train stations linking to London. The University of Hertfordshire further offers a park-and-ride facility that has space for up to 800 cars and provides bus services between both the campuses. Nearby airports include Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton that can easily be accessed by students via the A1(M) and M25 routes.
