  • History

The University of Hertfordshire in the UK was first established in 1952 as the Hatfield College of Technology. Hatfield College of Technology became Hatfield Polytechnic in 1969 when they introduced their honors degree courses in engineering and technology. In 1976, Wall Halls and Balls Park Teacher Training Colleges formed a merger and became the Hertfordshire College of Higher Education.

In the year 1984, the Hatfield Campus welcomed more than 5000 students and opened up a sports hall on its premises. In 1988, the Council for National Academic Awards granted polytechnic accreditation to Hatfield, and it became one of the only 21 institutions to get accredited at that time. Later that year, Hatfield received another accreditation for their research degrees. Finally, in 1992, the British government granted university status to Hatfield, and it became the University of Hertfordshire from that point onwards.

The University of Hertfordshire now has two campuses across the United Kingdom, with more than 25,000 students hailing from over 90 countries worldwide. With a gold TEF award to its name, the University of Hertfordshire falls under the category of  universities in the United Kingdom .

    Location

The University of Hertfordshire is in picturesque countryside, 25 minutes by rail from central London. In Hatfield, the two campuses of the University of Hertfordshire are only ten minutes apart by foot, bike, or shuttle bus. Almost 30,000 people call the town of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, home. It’s got a slew of bars, including the student favorite, The Forum. Despite its diminutive size, the town square hosts a month-to-month market and a farmers’ market.
