History
The University of Roehampton in the UK was first established in 1975 as Roehampton
Institute of Higher Education.
With a history of over 180 years, Roehampton was one of London’s first public universities. In the early 19th
century, four teacher training colleges named Digby Stuart College, Froebel College, Southlands College and
Whitelands College were established to provide academic excellence for women. These four colleges were later merged
in 1975 to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education.
In 2011, Roehampton Institute of Higher Education was officially renamed as the University of Roehampton. The University of Roehampton is one of London’s most reputed public universities offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes for the UK and international students.

Accommodations
The University of Roehampton offers housing on campus to all first-year international
students. Across the four institutions on campus, there are 1,500 single occupancy, self-catered rooms available,
with the option of an en suite bathroom.
Although postgraduate and older student housing is available and advised for people who
prefer quieter settings, the majority of accommodations are made for first-year students. The university can also
provide assistance to students who want to reside in private housing in Roehampton or somewhere near central London.

Transport
The University of Roehampton offers hassle-free transport for its students due to the
location being at the heart of a dynamic network of transport links. There are around 20 buses an hour commuting
from the main site to Whitelands and providing links to Barnes station, Richmond, Putney, Clapham Junction and
more.
There is a dedicated free bus service for students and staff going back and forth every
20 minutes between the campus and Barnes Station. The service is expected to extend from September 2021, where it
will open routes as far as Wimbledon Station, hence connecting London tram and overland train services for all
students and staff. Students can also commute to the city by train, car, or even cycle. Students can also enjoy a
30% discount at Transport of London services.
